Requests for support

Boehringer Ingelheim Ireland (Boehringer) are committed to enhancing healthcare services and patient care. We also believe in the core Industry principles of integrity, transparency and respect.

There are a number of ways in which we can provide support that ranges from financial support, skills and expertise or even the provision of drug for research.

Below you will find a brief summary of the 4 types of support Boehringer may be able to offer, and how to apply.

Types of Support We Offer

1. Investigator Initiated Studies

• Boehringer supports academic and community based researchers or consortia who are interested in independently proposing and conducting their own clinical research. Boehringer may provide financial support and/or drug
• Boehringer does not serve as the regulatory sponsor for IIS
• In general, IIS are not registrational studies and may be proof of concept or exploratory in nature. The budget for such studies should reflect fair market value for all costs
• Boehringer requires researchers to apply for funding via an online application process

2. External Collaborative Research

Boehringer can also take a more collaborative approach to external research, as well as providing financial support and/or drug as with an IIS. This is termed external collaborative research.

Here Boehringer also does not serve as regulatory sponsor (as above), but can:

• be involved in design and protocol development
• have intellectual input during a study
• be involved in publication planning and potentially co-authorship

3. Grants, Healthcare Support Services and Other Forms of Support

Boehringer is committed to enhancing patient care in Ireland by considering requests for Grants and Other Forms of Support in the form of educational, research or employments grants, donations or sponsorship of equipment for the betterment of patients. Such support is freely given with no consequent obligation on the recipient organisation, institution and the like to provide goods or services to the benefit of Boehringer Ingelheim Ireland Ltd in return.

At the current time Boehringer is able to consider requests within the following therapy areas:

• Cardio-Renal-Metabolic diseases
• Specialty lung diseases

4. Sponsorships

• We are able to provide sponsorships for an activity to certain organisations. Sponsorship means a contribution, financial or otherwise, in whole or part provided by or on behalf of a company towards an activity (including an event/meeting or material) performed, organised, created etc by a healthcare organisation, patient organisation or other independent organisation, in exchange for tangible benefits for Boehringer, for example, the ability for Boehringer to promote its products, the rights for exhibition space, sponsored slot of symposium, free registrations for Boehringer participants.
• Please contact your local Boehringer representative for more information on how to apply for sponsorship for your event/activity.

Boehringer cannot support requests for:

• Funding to individual Healthcare Professionals, e.g. support for personal development opportunities, individual research projects or academic qualifications (e.g. MSc, PhD)
• Requests from Healthcare Professionals for support towards attendance at professional and scientific conferences
• Requests for grants and other forms of support which either directly or indirectly infer any benefit for Boehringer in return for provision of support, this includes any direct mention of a Boehringer product in the application
• Religious programmes
• Financial contributions to Political Parties
• Charitable fundraising events outside Ireland
• Social events

Please note each request must:

• Be submitted at least 8 weeks in advance of the proposed activity taking place. Boehringer are not able to consider requests within a shorter timeline
• Stipulate how the support will benefit patient care and / or the NHS
• Include all relevant key information about the proposed activity or educational meeting e.g. agenda
• Provide a breakdown of the overall costs for the proposed activity or educational meeting
• Specify the total amount of funding being requested and if any other funding contributions have been sought

Please note: ALL qualifying applications are reviewed by the Boehringer Funding Governance Committee. No commitment of support can be made prior to committee approval. Successful applications for funding will be subject to public disclosure as a Transfer of Value to a Healthcare or Patient Organisation in accordance with the IPHA Code of Practice.

Any provision of Donation or Grant support by Boehringer is by no means intended to impose undue influence or induce the prescription, administration, recommendation, purchase or sale of any Boehringer Ingelheim medicines.
