Diabetes

About 580 million adult people in the world are living with diabetes, with type 2 diabetes (T2D) accounting for 90 percent of all cases. This number is projected to increase to 850 million people by 2050. T2D is a chronic, progressive condition and long-term complications include stroke, heart attack and cardiovascular diseases as well as chronic kidney disease (CKD).

As such, the recommended guidelines for diabetes management goes far beyond controlling blood sugar levels. They also emphasize the risk of developing interconnected conditions, such as cardiovascular or kidney diseases.
